Volunteering

Imagine the thrill of sailing for a person who can feel and hear but has no sight, or of sailing a boat at speed even though they can't walk, or of joining in a sport where deafness doesn't matter.

Now imagine you being part of the volunteering team that can make this happen!

Our volunteers help out as little or as often as their time allows and we hold training sessions throughout the year both on and off the water, formal and informal; along with the opportunity to participate in learning to race and take part in club racing and regattas. The support and time given by our volunteers is what makes our club the success that it is and in return for your time we offer you the chance to learn new skills, a volunteer log book scheme to record your progress, the opportunity to pass your own experience onto others and make a difference, but most of all the opportunity to have a bit of fun and make new friends whilst being part of a very friendly and welcoming club.

We are also an RYA Recognised Training Centre and can provide our volunteers with RYA certificates on successful completion of RYA approved training courses.

Every one of our volunteers has a unique contribution to make to Belfast Lough Sailability and we welcome volunteers who can contribute both on and off the water, with or without a disability, young or old. You don’t even need any sailing or water based skills in order to help out, and you don’t have to go onto the water if you don’t want to. Even if you have never thought about sailing before it is no barrier to volunteering with us.

Our volunteers help with various aspects of running the club from meeting and greeting members and groups, to helping on the pontoon, rigging boats, helping people in and out of boats including using the hoist, taking people sailing, crewing the safety boat or other powerboats, helping with maintaining boats and equipment, and assisting with fundraising or being a member of the Management Committee; some just enjoy the social aspect of being able to come along and chat to members and participants making sure they are ok and enjoying themselves. There is a role for everyone!

Being a volunteer with Belfast Lough Sailability is a fantastic experience that is both very rewarding and great fun.

If you would like to volunteer your time and skills, or just want to know more then please contact the volunteer coordinator by either using the enquiry form on the contact page or by telephoning 07599 689280.
